I will be teaching a course on Wendell Berry's Unsettling of America. We will carefully and closely read his essays and discuss geographical, agricultural, social, and cultural implications of present-day agribusiness techniques. Several essays and poems outside of the aforementioned text maybe included in the course. We will also examine other sources like Walter Benjamin and Thomas Jefferson. While the syllabus is still being devised, reader be warned there will be a handful of writing assignments, which will be treated as gauges beyond class discussion and as exercises for a deeper articulation. I expect a strong desire to dig into the texts and explore.
