Utopia And Dystopia On Film

Many have longed for the perfect society yet many fail to achieve it. In movies, societies are created with highest ideals, but rarely are they the results we can live with. This course will look at the ways societies purporting to be utopian are portrayed on film, as well as those that fall well below the ideal. How do they mirror our own society? What do they have to tell us about the utopian ideal and can it be achieved? We will screen one film each week followed by a lively discussion.

Dates: Thursdays 6-9pm, 11 weeks
Place: TBD
Fee: $14 per class; $135 for all 11 weeks (paid in advance).
