Manufacturing Consent
This course will analyze how political groups utilize cultural means (media, art, music) to enact what Noam Chomsky calls “manufacturing consent.” We will look at the ways in which political philosophies are disseminated throughout large populations by various mediums. We will examine works by Baudrillard, Chomsky, and Derber that relate to propaganda, dissemination, and the simulation of reality.
